Norton Antivirus Fallacy
Most people will opt in or get locked into this ploy. Most people will let it expire and expose their computers to virus.
How does it work? Norton software comes with most of Dell/Sony/Gateway/even no brand since they make huge amount of money and time to lock market share. They let you try it for awhile and cut off the subscription. By then, users think they are in danger.
Needless to mention, virus is a real problem and fighting them is a daily chore for tech people. It is important for every user to pick the right antivirus package.
Our experiences with Norton has been negative. It has heavy handed manner of protecting your computer and literally takes over it. On the fastest computer, you notice slight slow down. So, on slow computer, we remove it and install something else.
We recommend Grisoft's AVG. They have non-commercial free package which is better than Norton. We have been using to replace useless Norton so they have minimum protection and it consistently caught latest bugs and its updates are prompt and we are quite pleased with it.
They do have commercial high-priority versions you can get. By the way, Symantec enterprise antivirus package is different from retail version and is good. So you know there are differences between them and also it costs arms and a leg.
